The SmartPool PT4i Robotic Pool Cleaner is the perfect choice for above ground pools and smaller in-ground pools. The SmartPool PT4i is recommended for all pool surface types including, vinyl liner, fiberglass, concrete, plaster and pebble finishes. The SmartPool PT4i Pool Cleaner is lightweight and has a quick-drain system for easier removal from the pool and an extra-large filter bag for greater capacity. This cleaner includes everything you’ll need for installation and operation.

Smartpool PT4i Common Questions and Answers

Below are some troubleshooting tips and frequently asked questions.

Pump and drive motors are not operating, what can i do?

  1. A/C Outlet/GFI – Check the A/C outlet or reset the GFI or try another outlet.
  2. Power Supply Reset – Turn the power supply off. Unplug the power supply from the A/C outlet. Wait 30 seconds and turn power supply on.
  3. Extension Cord – Try plugging the power supply directly into an outlet.

The cleaner is not moving.

  1. Debris caught in tracks, brushes and impeller – Check for debris and clean with a garden hose. May have to remove impeller cap (1 screw).
  2. Cleaner caught on obstruction in pool – Turn the cleaner off and gently pull on the cord to remove it from the obstruction.
  3. Filter bag installation – Run the SmartPool PT4i pool cleaner without the filter bag and check the bottom lid. Check filter bag and make sure it is properly installed.
  4. Tracks have fallen off – Check to see if the tracks are loose or have fallen off completely.

The cleaner is not providing suction, how can i correct this?

  1. Filter bag installation. – Run the cleaner without the filter bag and check the bottom lid. Check filter bag and make sure it is properly installed.
  2. Filter bag full – Clean the filter bag thoroughly with a garden hose.
  3. Debris in fan/impeller – Check for debris and clean with a garden hose. May have to remove impeller cap (1 screw).

Starts and stops, what would cause this?

  1. Filter bag installation – Run the cleaner without the filter bag and check the bottom lid. Check filter bag and make sure it is properly installed.
  2. Filter bag full – Clean filter bag thoroughly with a garden hose.
  3. Debris caught in tracks/brushes/impeller – Check for debris and clean with a garden hose. May have to remove impeller cap (1 screw).
  4. Brushes worn – Check the brushes and ring (if applicable) for wear. Replace if necessary.
  5. Caught on something in pool – Turn the cleaner off and gently pull on the cord to remove it from obstruction.

Why is the cleaner moving back & forth/doing wheelies or spinning in circles?

  1. Filter bag installation – Run the cleaner without the filter bag and check the bottom lid. Check filter bag and make sure it is properly installed.

My cord gets tangled often, is there an easy way to fix this?

  1. Floating cord not being unplugged from power supply regularly – Make sure the cable is being unplugged from the power supply after every 1-2 cycle(s) to release the tension that builds during a cycle.
  2. Excess cord in pool – Only use the necessary amount of cable to cover the pool efficiently.
  3. Cord not being unwound before use – Make sure the cable is straightened out before the cycle is started. Walk the SmartPool PT4i pool cleaner the length of the pool to straighten cord.
  4. Cord being wrapped/stored incorrectly – When wrapping the cable, make large loops and start at the cleaner end so the free, plug end can unwind any residual tension.

The cleaner is floating/climbing, is this normal?

  1. Air trapped in filter bag – Rock the cleaner back and forth under water to release any trapped air.
  2. Cleaner climbing too high regularly – A weight can be added to the cleaner to prevent it from climbing too high and to assist in the decent back to the floor.
  3. D.E. Present in filter bag – If there is D.E. in the pool, it could clog the bag. Clean the bag thoroughly.
