HOW TO DETERMINE THE PROPER WATER LEVEL IN YOUR POOL

For brand new above ground pool owners it is a common to ask what the proper water level in your pool should be throughout the summer. In general, the proper height can be measured according to the skimmer. The second screw from the top of the skimmer is a good marker to see if you need to add or drain any water.

This screw ends up being about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the skimmer opening.

Possible Problems From A Low Water Level:

• Skimmer will not effectively trap passing debris.
• A gurgling sound will occur sporadically when the pump does not get enough water and begins to suck air instead.
• Continued air pulled through the pump can shorten the pumps life span and cause it to burn out.
• Once air enters the system, the pump may lose prime and need to be restarted.

• Comparing the water height to the skimmer screws is a good way to keep track of the water level when you suspect a leak.
• An above ground pool relies on water to keep its structure. It is imperative to keep the water level at least more than half way filled at all times. An empty pool on a hot day or even a pool with little water in it can cause the liner to shrink and need to be replaced. An empty pool is also susceptible to collapse in high winds or bad weather.
• Whenever replacing water in your pool, both removal and refilling should be completed in the same day.
